‘…and then we Die’

Parallel world 1: The Humans.

We (humans) pop into this world with no choice of our own (left dot above). One day we pop out with no choice of our own (right dot above).
The thread signifies all the things that happens in between. We call it ‘life’.

There are millions who have popped in and out of this world and many will.

One third of this ‘life’ is spent sleeping. For most people, the remaining part is nothing less than melodrama.

Most the things they do are either due to compulsion or to fit to societal norms. There are ups and downs in this journey signified the thread.

Parallel world 2: The Animals.
Drawing parallels from animal kingdom i often try to find the difference between humans vs animals. for lack of better pic./imagination i chose to compare humans with our pet cat ‘Wolfoo’. See pic below:

The animals also show similar traits as humans.

They come into this world without their choice. They die without choice either.

In this case we chose to castrate our cat so can’t reproduce either. :)

As against humans the cats spend 2/3rd of their life sleeping. :)

and remaining on doing thing as they like and want.

They play, eat and do all things as per their own needs and wishes. One can never force a cat to act according to your wishes.

Humans and their quest for purpose.

The only difference (not sure if I can term it an advantage :)) is that humans can resonate. They can think. They can create things.

Beyond the inevitability of birth and death humans can create and innovate things which no other mammals can do. (or least we know of as of today).

Due to this thinking and reasoning ability, We all seek a bigger purpose in life. which is beyond the circle of life and death.

Many thinkers and philosophers have written about this under ‘Existentialism‘. In short, existentialism is the simple concept that life has no inherent meaning. It is up to humans to find or create their purpose.

There are different ways we humans can find purpose. It is in the form of relationships we get born with. We also create them during this small time between pop in and pop out.
It could be in form of your career/relationships, pursuing your hobbies and finding our ikigai.

It means we can choose to do things beyond just existence. (* Only when your other existential needs are taken care of).

To wrap up, we humans should think beyond just existing. We should do something useful with the unique skill or reasoning. Thinking is endowed only to us.

As for me i am not yet sure if I’ve found this purpose. one thing is for sure i try to spend as much time between these two dots consciously.

By doing thing what i love most and care most about. By getting better at saying ‘No’ to things or life i don’t want to live.

I would love to hear from you on your reflection on this? What is your purpose of life? if you have found one :).

These are some of the points I scribbled. I did this before wrapping up my work on Friday on this unusually cold and snowy Stockholm today. :)

BTW happy valentines day, I know not the most romantic blog on this day..But thoughts, beyond control :)

//Until next time.
