‘Anybody can be a leader when times are good. Leadership is truly tested during adversity‘
The recent spate between Potus and Zelensky in the oval house is true example of this. Earlier we used to get a filtered, politically aligned and sober outcome of these behind the door discussions but not this time.
The topics being discussed and debated are not the common board room discussions on P/L which might impact some quarterly reports etc. But these are big discussions (World war3,Future of humanity) which impacts all of us and generations to come.
There are 3 key lessons which we all can learn from this tussle:
1. Effective Communication: is so crucial to avoid misunderstanding and conflicts. Listening is yet again the most important part of communication which in this case no one was keen on.
2. Resilience: is what zelensky has shown during all these years and even during this discussion. Being pressed from all sides and still doing what is right is Resiliency. It is not about doing what you are being forced to do.
3. Being assertive with empathy: is what sets apart great leaders vs potus. There must be fine balance between assertive and Compassionate Empathy.
#Autocraticleadership style in action is what potus has shown and a great reminder of how not to lead.
It reminds of the old Babylonian law code :
“A tooth for a tooth & eye for an eye make the whole world toothless and blind”
I tend to be apolitical and doesn’t like sharing agendas at least on this platform but this is leadership at worse.
This is history in making for millions of people at such hilarious levels.
